On information technology topics, the word “innovation” is increasingly present every day. Regarding the Internet of Things (IoT) subject, it’s no different. Every year new IoT products and services are created and presented that allow users to make their lives easier and simpler, connecting people to devices remotely and automatically, generating mobility and operability of services through the heterogeneity of devices connected to the internet. Based on obstacles found in daily homes, this paperwork aims study the development of a unique and easy use platform. On this platform, it is possible to have IoT devices centralized on the same local network unit so that they can be managed and manipulated through a simple and intuitive graphical interface. Thus, management is unified and practical for any type of user who is interested in using this technology. In this thesis, good practices and the best solutions researched within the practice of IoT management were studied in different scenarios. Covering types of technologies, proposed architectures, configuration processes and compatibility analysis of features and functionality of different devices currently on the market. Modelos de "africanização" das operações de apoio à paz

As iniciativas de “africanização” das Operações de Apoio à Paz (OAP) aparecem como sendo um vector importante para a operacionalização das políticas de cooperação no domínio da segurança e defesa. O programa RECAMP é um eficaz instrumento de projecção de poder da França dado que reforça a sua liderança na condução da agenda Europa-África. O programa ACRI, o ACOTA, o ARP, o IMET e o ACSS inscrevem- se na lógica do intervencionismo que orienta os interesses estratégicos hegemónicos dos EUA, no sentido de incrementar a sua influência no continente africano. No caso português, o recém-divulgado PAMPA reorienta o esforço da cooperação militar no sentido da sua componente multilateral. O sucesso dos modelos de “africanização” das OAP dependerá da capacidade da comunidade de doadores em coordenar as múltiplas iniciativas e programas de cooperação no domínio da segurança e defesa, integrados eficazmente numa estratégia global da luta contra a pobreza

O modelo curricular de Skilbeck postula uma directriz fundamental a que deve presidir a elaboração de qualquer um "conjunto de acções planificadas com vista a suscitar a instrução "(De Landsheere). Essa directriz consiste, segundo Skilbeck, na efectiva participação da instituição educativa. Isto porque, segundo o mesmo autor, qualquer "modelo" é uma estrutura de acção cuja dinâmica, no quadro institucional, produz um efeito de selecção (diferenciação dos elementos) que, na situação de ensino-aprendizagem, é indispensável à melhoria da prática educativa. A função do currículo é entre outras, estabelecer uma ponte entre a diversidade das práticas de ensino-aprendizagem e a investigação sistemática relativa aos diferentes tipos de saber que as integram, de modo a possibilitar, de forma consistente, a evolução das mesmas

Uma obra de reflexão acessível constituía uma necessidade no panorama da nossa cultura pedagógica. A obra aqui em questão representa o remover dessa situação, sendo pena que a mesma não esteja já traduzida em português. De facto, muito se tem escrito também entre nós sobre a pedagogia, com incidência em tópicos diferenciados e incluindo os diversos níveis de ensino. CERNAS – Current Evolution and Research Novelty in Agricultural Sustainability

This book addresses original studies and reviews focused on the current evolution and research novelty in agricultural sustainability. New developments are discussed on issues related with quality of soil, natural fertilizers or the sustainable use of land and water. Also crop protection techniques are pivotal for the sustainable food production under the challenges of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, allied to innovative weed control methodologies, as a way to reduce the utilization of pesticides. The role of precision and smart agriculture is becoming more pertinent as the communication technologies improve at a high rate. Waste management, reuse of agro industrial residues, extension of shelf life and use of new technologies are ways to reduce food waste, all contributing to a higher sustainability of the food supply chains, leading to a more rational use of natural resources. The unquestionable role of bees as pollinators and contributors for biodiversity is subjacent to the work of characterization of beekeeping activities, which in turn contribute, together with the valorization of endemic varieties of plant foods, for the development of local communities. Tracking the US Business Cycle With a Singular Spectrum Analysis

The monitoring of economic developments is an exercise of considerable importance forpolicy makers, namely, central banks and fiscal authorities as well as for other economic agents such as financial intermediaries, firms and households. However, the assessment of the business cycle is not an easy endeavor as the cyclical component is not an observable variable. In this paper we resort to singular spectrum analysis in order to disentangle the US GDP into several underlying components of interest. The business cycle indicator yielded through this method is shown to bear a resemblance with band-pass filtered output. As the end-of-sample behavior is typically a thorny issue in business cycle assessment, a real-time estimation exercise is here conducted to assess the reliability of the several filters. The obtained results suggest that the business cycle indicator proposed herein possesses a better revision performance than other filters commonly applied in the literature.

Dialectical Polyptych: an interactive movie installation

Most of the known video games developed by important software companies usually establish an approach to the cinematic language in an attempt to create a perfect combination of narrative, visual technique and interaction. Unlike most video games, interactive film narratives normally involve an interruption in time whenever the spectator has to make choices. “Dialectical Polyptych” is an interactive movie included in a project called “Characters looking for a spectactor”, which aims to give the spectator on-the-fly control over film editing, thus exploiting the role of the spectator as an active subject in the presented narrative. This paper presents an installation based on a mobile device, which allows seamless real-time interactivity with the movie. Different finger touches in the screen allow the spectator to alternate between two parallel narratives, both producing a complementary narrative, and change the angle or shot within each narrative.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Uma nova rede de museus para o exército português

Tese de mestrado em Museologia e Museografia, apresentada à Universidade de Lsiboa através da Faculdade de Belas Artes, 2005O Exército Português possui um vasto e diversificado património museológico, de abrangência territorial nacional e multidisciplinar. A sua estrutura organizacional, diversa legislação de suporte e missão reflectem a preocupação de preservar a memória militar, essencialmente na perspectiva histórica. Desde a dimensão e valor das colecções do Museu Militar (em Lisboa) até à mais pequena e humilde Sala de Honra de uma certa Unidade/Estabelecimento/Órgão há, inequivocamente, um denominador comum: conservar os diferentes testemunhos e acções militares. Mas, sendo condição necessária, conservar não é suficiente para se verificar o cumprimento de requisitos museológicos e museográficos, que são actualmente exigidos por lei. Perante esse enquadramento e associado à percepção de existirem insuficiências de diversa ordem no panorama museológico do Exército Português, era determinante avaliar e caracterizar a sua realidade para se propor um novo modelo de gestão e de funcionamento mais eficiente e superiormente articulado. Assim, estabeleceram-se duas perguntas: - Quantos museus, núcleos museológicos, ou outras denominações, existem no Exército Português? - Quais são as características de cada um e de todos, relativamente às funções museológicas? As respostas a essas duas questões, na globalidade, não foram possíveis de obter junto da tutela e do Observatório das Actividades Culturais. Em consequência, recorreu--se ao método do questionário para a recolha de dados e procedeu-se a diversas visitas e entrevistas como forma complementar daquele método e contribuir desse modo para uma caracterização mais verdadeira. Os resultados obtidos confirmam a necessidade, importância e urgência em agir de forma a ser implementada no Exército Português uma estrutura em rede de Museus Militares e de Colecções Militares Visitáveis, aberta a outros museus ou colecções visitáveis quer no plano nacional quer no internacional dotada de recursos museológicos humanos, materiais, financeiros e informáticos adequados para viabilizar um projecto de natureza complexa e diversificada, de dimensão variável e organizada funcionalmente de forma a cumprir dois critérios: - De descentralização territorial, alguns recursos museológicos e temáticos; - De centralização na gestão integrada daqueles recursos.The Portuguese Army possesses a large and varied museological patrimony that is also national and multidisciplinary. Its organizational structure, supporting legislation and mission show the concern for the maintenance of the military memory, particularly in terms of historical perspective. There is something that both the large and valuable collections in the Military Museum (in Lisbon) and the smallest and most humble Salas de Honra of a particular Unit have in common, which is the fact that different military actions and testimony need to be preserved. Nevertheless, “to maintain”, on its own, is not sufficient once we bear in mind museological and museographical requirements. Therefore and due to some insufficiencies related to the museums that belong to the Portuguese Army it seemed of great importance to assess and characterize the reality of those museums. Thus, it might be possible to formulate a proposal for a new model of management as well as for a more effective functioning. Two questions were formulated: - How many museums and related structures are there in the Portuguese Army? - Which are the characteristics of each and of all of them concerning their functions? Due to the impossibility of getting the answers for these questions, we decided to use a questionnaire for data collecting and decided to go through a process of several visits and interviews that could complement the questionnaire and contribute for a more real characterization. The results confirm the need, importance and urgency of implementing a net structure in the Portuguese Army to be used with the Military Museums as well as with other Military Collections. This structure should also be used by other museums or collections – both in national and international territory – and possess the necessary resources – human, material, financial and computer – to create a complex multi project of variable dimension. This project should be organized in order to accomplish: - Territorial decentralization of some thematic and museum related resources - Centralization in terms of integrated management of those resources. Influência da terapia manual nas disfunções da articulação temporomandibular: uma revisão bibliográfica

Projeto de Graduação apresentado à Universidade Fernando Pessoa como parte dos requisitos para obtenção do grau de Licenciado em FisioterapiaObjetivo: analisar diferentes protocolos sobre a influência da terapia manual nas disfunções da articulação temporomandibular. Metodologia: Foi realizada uma pesquisa computorizada nas bases de dados PEDro, PubMed e EBSCO para identificar estudos randomizados controlados que avaliassem a influência da terapia manual nas disfunções da articulação temporomandibular. Resultados: Foram incluídos 9 estudos num total de 458 indivíduos. A mobilização acessória na mandíbula, a informação e instrução dos pacientes, as técnicas de inibição quando associadas ao exercício, bem como os exercícios de relaxamento e alongamento demonstraram resultados positivos na intervenção fisioterapêutica, ao contrário das técnicas de indução miofascial. Conclusões: Os resultados mostram eficácia em quase todas as técnicas aplicadas, embora algumas quando associadas a outras. A heterogeneidade dos estudos, dos protocolos de tratamento e da sua aplicação não permite concluir o tempo ideal de tratamento bem como os efeitos a longo prazo.Objective: to analyze different protocols on the influence of manual therapy on temporomandibular joint dysfunctions. Methodology: A computerized research was performed in the databases PEDro, PubMed and EBSCO, to identify randomized controlled trials that evaluated the influence of manual therapy on temporomandibular joint dysfunctions. Results: 9 studies were included in a total of 458 individuals. The nonspecific mandibular mobilization, the information and instruction of the patients, the inhibition techniques when associated to the exercise, as well as the relaxation and stretching exercises demonstrated positive results in the physiotherapeutic intervention, except myofascial induction techniques. Conclusions: The results show efficacy in almost all applied techniques, although some when associated with others. The heterogeneity of the studies, the treatment protocols and their application does not allow to conclude the optimal treatment time as well as the long-term effects.N/
